THE FORMAT, WITHOUT THE GUESSWORK
How double elimination works
Everyone begins in the winners bracket. A first loss moves a participant into the losers bracket; a second loss eliminates them. The winners-bracket finalist and the losers-bracket finalist meet in the grand final. The optional no-reset final is an exception to the two-loss rule, explained below.
Start in winners
Win to stay on the upper path. Lose once and move into the losers bracket.
Keep the comeback alive
Win in losers to stay in contention. Lose again and your tournament is over.
Meet in the final
The two bracket finalists play for the title, using the final rule you chose at setup.
Set the field. We’ll connect the matches.
Add 2–64 players or teams, paste a participant list, and arrange seeds or shuffle them. BracketForge assigns byes when needed. Record a winner and optional scores; the existing tournament engine advances winners and routes first-loss participants into the correct losers matches.
Useful for gaming nights, community sports, office leagues and friendly competitions where a single early loss shouldn’t end someone’s run.

Does the grand final need a reset?
Grand-final reset is enabled by default. If the unbeaten winners-bracket finalist wins the grand final, the tournament ends. If the losers-bracket finalist wins, both finalists now have one loss, so a deciding reset match determines the champion. You can turn reset off before creating: one grand final then decides the title, and the winners-bracket finalist can finish second with only one loss.
Pick the rule before creating and communicate it to your participants.

Double elimination questions, answered
Is this double elimination bracket maker free?
Yes. Creating and managing double elimination tournaments is free, including result entry, local saves, snapshot sharing and exports. You don’t need an account.
How many players or teams can I add?
Double elimination supports 2–64 entrants. Entrants can be individuals, teams or original aliases. Use a unique name for each entrant and avoid sensitive personal information.
Do I need exactly 8, 16, 32 or 64 entrants?
No. Non-power-of-two fields work too. The seeded bracket automatically gives byes to the highest seeds. A bye is not a played match or a loss.
Can I choose a final without a reset?
Yes. Uncheck Require grand-final reset in the creation form. With that option off, the grand final is a single deciding match, even if its loser was previously unbeaten.
Can other people follow the bracket?
Share a read-only snapshot link when you choose. Anyone with the link can view its tournament data. It is a fixed copy, not a live update or collaborative bracket; later results require a new snapshot. Your other saved tournaments are not shared.
